Tarn-et-Garonne (tärn-ā-gärôn`), department (1990 pop. 201,400), SW France. Montauban Montauban , city (1990 pop. 52,278), capital of Tarn-et-Garonne dept., S France, on the Tarn River. It is a commercial and industrial center where aeronautic and electrical equipment, food products, textiles, shoes, and tiles are produced.

a department of SW France, in Midi-Pyrénées region. Capital: Montauban. Pop.: 214 488 (2003 est.). Area: 3731 sq. km (1455 sq. miles)

Tarn-Et-Garonne 

a department of southern France, in the Garonne and Tarn river basins; located in the southwestern Massif Central. Area, 3,700 sq km. Population, 183,000 (1975). The capital is Montauban. Of Tarn-et-Garonne’s economically active population, 37 percent is employed in agriculture, and 17 percent in industry (1968). Vegetable and fruit growing and viticulture are important in the department; industries include food processing and machine building.
