Tarnogrodskii, Nikolai Pavlovich 

Born Aug. 16 (28), 1894, in the village of Zalestsakh, in what is now Dunaevtsy Raion, Khmel’nitskii Oblast; died Jan. 31, 1938. Participant in the struggle for Soviet power in the Ukraine. Member of the Communist Party from 1915.

The son of a peasant, Tarnogrodskii attended the medical faculty of the University of Kiev from 1914 and at the same time worked for the city Social Democratic organization. In 1916 he was arrested and imprisoned. After the February Revolution of 1917 he was chairman of the Vinnitsa Committee of the RSDLP(B), and in July he became a member of the party oblast committee of the Southwestern Krai. During the events of October 1917 he was chairman of the Vinnitsa Revolutionary Committee. In 1918 he was a member of the Kiev Underground Oblast Committee of the Communist Party (Bolshevik) of the Ukraine. In 1919 he was chairman of the Podol’sk Provincial Executive Committee and a member of the party provincial committee bureau. He subsequently worked in the Front-Line Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party (Bolshevik) of the Ukraine and as head of a department of the Central Committee. From 1920 to 1922 he was chairman of the Podol’sk Provincial Revolutionary Committee, secretary of the Poltava Provincial Revolutionary Committee, and secretary of the Provincial Committee of the Communist Party (Bolshevik) of the Ukraine. From 1922 he held high party posts in the Urals, the Northern Caucasus, the Far East, and the Executive Committee of the Communist International.

Tarnogrodskii was a delegate to the Twelfth, Thirteenth, and Sixteenth Congresses of the ACP(B). He was a member of the All-Russian Central Executive Committee and the All-Ukrainian Central Executive Committee.
