Tatabánya
a city in Hungary, west of Budapest; administrative center of the megye (county) of Komárom. Population, 69,000 (1974). A railroad junction, Tatabánya is also the center of the area’s brown coal field. Local industries include the production of mining machinery, building materials, and chemicals, as well as aluminum smelting. Tatabánya has two steam power plants.
