    0.03 sec.
Tatishchev, Sergei Spiridonovich

Born Sept. 28 (Oct. 10), 1846, in St. Petersburg; died Aug. 7 (20), 1906, in Graz, Austria. Russian diplomat and historian.

Tatishchev studied at the Aleksandrovskii Lycée and began his diplomatic career in 1864. He served as a volunteer in the Russo-Turkish War of 1877–78. Beginning in 1881 he worked in the Ministry of the Interior, from which he retired in 1883. Tatishchev is the author of the historical works The Foreign Policy of Emperor Nicholas I (1887), Diplomatic Discussions of Russia’s Foreign Policy (vols. 1–2, 1890–98), From Russia’s Past Diplomacy (1890), The Tatishchev Family, 1400–1900 (1900), and Emperor Alexander II: His Life and Reign (vols. 1–2, 1903–11). Tatishchev’s works, although written from a conservative-monarchist viewpoint, nevertheless provide valuable factual information.
