Tawney, James Albertus (1855–1919) U.S. representative; born near Gettysburg, Pa. A blacksmith who became a lawyer in 1882, he served in the Minnesota Senate. In the U.S. House of Representatives (Rep., 1893–1911) he was majority whip and chairman of the Committee on Appropriations.
