Taylor, Cecil (Percival) (1933– ) jazz musician; born in New York City. A conservatory-trained pianist, he emerged in 1955 as a bandleader with an uncompromising, abstract approach to jazz language and harmony. He worked sporadically until the 1970s, but eventually won recognition, particularly among Europeans, for his style of extended, nontonal free improvisation. How to thank TFD for its existence?
