Taylor, Lucy Beaman (b. Hobbs) (1833–1910) dentist; born in western New York. The first American woman to earn a dental degree (1866), she did so only after years of being refused admission to dental schools (1859–65). Practicing with her husband in Lawrence, Kans. (1867–86), she was the first woman to be admitted into a state dental association.
