Taylor, Walter W. (Willard) (1913–  ) archaeologist; born in Chicago, Ill. His Study of Archaeology (1948) attacked traditional taxonomic methodology and called for more stringent excavations and analysis of material. A specialist in the neolithic and chalcolithic archaeology of Western Europe, he was also known for his North American fieldwork. He taught at Southern Illinois University (1958–74).
