Technical Use Factor
one of the indices that characterize the reliability of repairable, continuously operating equipment, for example, units of an electric power plant and automatic telephone exchange equipment. The technical use factor is expressed by the ratio of the mathematical expectation of the time the object will be in working condition during a certain period of operation to the sum of the mathematical expectations of the time the object will be in working condition, the downtime for regular maintenance, and the downtime for repairs during the same period of operation. The technical use factor is determined statistically from the results of observing several objects of the same type:
where ttot is the total operating time of all the observed objects, tser is the total downtime for regular maintenance, and trep is the total downtime for repairs.
