SOME years ago we were told that the name Tees-side International Airport had to change because most people who did not live locally were not aware of the area known as Tees-side.
When the-then housing and local government minister Richard Crossman announced in 1965 the Teesside authority would be established, the Evening Gazette reported the story under the Front Page headline "Now Tees-side is to be a great new city".
But almost 40 years ago the name was high on the agenda for a meeting of the then Tees-side (it had a hyphen then) Airport Joint Committee.
