Teffi, Nadezhda Aleksandrovna 

(real surname, Lokh-vitskaia; married name, Buchinskaia). Born May 9 (21), 1872, in St. Petersburg; died Oct. 6,1952, in Paris. Russian writer.

Teffi began publishing in 1901. From 1905 to 1907 she wrote sharply satirical poems and articles for such Bolshevik publications as Novaia zhiirí and Zvezda. Beginning in 1908, she contributed to the journal Satirikern. In the collections And So It Came to Be (1912) and Lifeless Beast (1916), she made fun of the psychology of the philistine.

Teffi emigrated in 1920. Living in Paris, she published satirical articles on White emigres.
