The Golfo de Tehuantepec measures approximately 110 km in length and approximately 450 km in width at the entrance. an isthmus in Mexico between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. The isthmus measures 215–240 km in width. Along the coast are alluvial marine lowlands, while in the central parts are highlands with elevations to 650 m. The isthmus is covered with tropical forests and savannas. It has significant deposits of sulfur and of oil and gas, which are exploited. A railroad, a highway, and an oil- and gas-products pipeline pass through the isthmus. The port of Coatzacoalcos is on the Bay of Campeche.

The Isthmus of Tehuantepec is usually considered to be the northern boundary of Central America.
