Piecing together data from Hubble and images taken hours to days later by a telescope at Teide Observatory in the Canary Islands, Spain, Weaver estimates that the debris moves at 109 km an hour and probably separated from the comet a mere 2 days before Hubble took the picture. Slooh's equipment is located at one of the best astronomical viewing sites in the world, atop Mount Teide in the Canary Islands. Raphael Rebolo and his colleagues at the Instituto de Astrofisica de Canarias in La Laguna, Spain, discovered the candidate while analyzing images of the Pleiades taken with a telescope at Teide Observatory in the Canary Islands. |
