Teleorman
a district in southern Rumania. Area, 5,900 sq km. Population, 541,200 (1974). The administrative center is the city of Alexandria. Teleorman District accounts for more than 1 percent of the country’s industrial output and 3.5 percent of its agricultural output (1975). Industries include machine-building, the production of chemicals, petroleum extraction, and food processing. Among the major crops grown in the district are corn, wheat, legumes, sunflowers, and sugar beets. Grapes are also grown, as well as vegetables.
