Telingater, Solomon Benediktovich
Born Apr. 29 (May 12), 1903, in Tbilisi; died Oct. 1, 1969, in Moscow. Soviet graphic artist. Member of the CPSU from 1943. Telingater studied at the Moscow Vkhutemas (State Higher Arts and Technical Studios) in 1920 and 1921 under V. A. Favorskii. He designed advertising types and hand letters and worked as a book designer and illustrator. Telingater’s works are characterized by perfect composition, consummate workmanship, and elegant calligraphy and design. They include designs for A. I. Bezymenskii’s Komsomoliia (1928), Moscow: Planning and Construction in the City, 1945–57 (1958), and the album V. I. Lenin (1939). Telingater was awarded three orders and various medals.
