Nenchev, Teodor 

Born 1913 in the village of Valeny, present-day Vulkaneshty Raion, Moldavian SSR; died 1944. Soviet Moldavian poet.

Nenchev was first published in the mid-1930’s. He wrote for newspapers and magazines in Kishinev, Iasy, and Bucharest and was editor of the literary magazine Buzhiakul, which was published in Bolgrad in southern Bessarabia. His collection Verses was published in Bolgrad in 1937 but was confiscated by the police; another collection was published in 1940 in Kishinev. Nenchev’s poetry is permeated with protest against the bourgeois-landlord order and appeals for the creation of a new way of life. His poetry was influenced by S. A. Esenin. Nenchev was killed in the Great Patriotic War of 1941–45.
