Term Paper

an independent learning project undertaken by students and used as a teaching method in universities and institutes of pedagogy, economics, jurisprudence, and culture and the arts. The student writes the term paper on general or specialized subjects in the curriculum under the direction of an instructor. Term papers are assigned to promote independent creative work, mastery of modern research methods, and a deeper understanding of specific problems, topics, or subjects (including the study of literature and sources).

Term papers written by second- and third-year students are generally in the form of essays; those written by more advanced students are based on extensive research. Topics are developed and approved by the departments of higher educational institutions, and the term paper is defended in the department.
