In west-central MT, northwest of Great Falls; organized Feb 7, 1893 from Chouteau County. Name Origin: For the Teton River and Teton Peak in the Teton Mountains or for the Teton Indian tribe.

Area (sq mi): 2292.58 (land 2272.61; water 19.97). Pop per sq mi: 2.70.
Pop 2005: 6,240. State rank: 31. Pop change: 2000-20005 -3.20%; 1990-2000 2.80%. Pop 2000: 6,445 (White 95.60%; Black or African American 0.20%; Hispanic or Latino 1.10%; Asian 0.10%; Other 3.40%). Foreign born: 1.50%. Median age: 40.00.
