Tubi, Tewfik 

Born May 11, 1922, in Haifa. Israeli labor movement figure.

Tubi received a secondary education in Jerusalem. As a young man, he took part in the democratic anti-imperialist youth movement and helped organize Arab trade unions in Palestine. In 1943, Tubi became a leader of the Palestine Communist Party, which he had joined in 1941. In 1949 he became a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Israel (CPI). In 1950, from 1957 to 1961, and from 1965 to 1969 he served as secretary of the Central Committee of the CPI. From 1969 to 1972, he served as secretary of the Secretariat of the Central Committee. From 1972 to 1976 he served as coordinator of the affairs of the Secretariat of the Central Committee. Tubi became deputy general secretary in 1976. In 1949 he was elected a deputy to the Knesset, and in 1950 he joined the World Peace Council.

Tubi has written articles on the communist and working-class movement in Israel and on the national liberation movement in the Middle East.
