Texel (tĕk`səl, tĕ`səl), island (1994 pop. 13,022), 71 sq mi (184 sq km), North Holland prov., NW Netherlands, in the North Sea, the largest and southernmost of the West Frisian Islands. It is a popular summer resort, and sheep are raised on its grazing land. The island is also a breeding ground for sea birds. texel(TEXture ELement) The smallest addressable unit of a texture map. When objects in the image are near, one texel is mapped to one or more screen pixels. When objects are distant, multiple texels are averaged into one screen pixel. See texture map.
