text field

A data structure that holds alphanumeric data, such as name and address. If a text field holds large, or unlimited, amounts of text, it may be called a "memo field." See text file. Contrast with numeric field.

In addition to fixed numbers, you can use Excel formulas, so if you want to enter one of the last seven years you can use the formula =YEAR(NOW())-7 in the Minimum text field and =YEAR(NOW())-1 in the Maximum field (see exhibit 1, below).
