Studies and interprets New England's daily life, architecture, and decorative arts between the mid-17th and 20th centuries. Maintains archives and a conservation center; conducts educational programs and leads historic tours. Also sponsors a helpline for homeowners' questions about preserving and maintaining their old houses. Members: 3,000. Dues: $35/year.
