Körner, Theodor
Born Apr. 24, 1873, in Komorn, present-day Komarno, Czechoslovakia; died Jan. 4, 1957, in Vienna. Austrian statesman. The son of an artillery officer. Körner graduated from a military engineering academy in Vienna in 1894. In 1924 he retired from the army with the rank of general. In the same year he joined the Social Democratic Party. From 1925 to 1934, Körner was a deputy to the Austrian parliament. From 1935 to 1945 he lived in Vienna as a private citizen and engaged in scholarly work on military questions and linguistics. From 1945 to 1951 he was burgomaster of Vienna. After June 1951, he was federal president of the Austrian Republic. Körner advocated permanent neutrality for Austria and the development of friendly relations with the USSR. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
