Also found in: Wikipedia | 0.03 sec. |
thermal greaseA conductive substance that is used to transfer heat from one device to another. For example, when a heat sink is attached to a chip, there is a huge number of microscopic gaps between the two surfaces. The thermal grease helps bond the two surfaces and transfer the heat more effectively. See heat sink. How to thank TFD for its existence? Proper mounting techniques are recommended to ensure optimum performance of these devices, including the use of thermal compound between the heatsink and package. The assembly is a combination of a heatsink and stainless mounting clip and a Furon C1055 thermal pad (or Dow Corning thermal compound SC102). Optional "phase-change" thermal interface materials minimize contact resistance without the mess of thermal compounds. |
