Thomas Hart Benton Home & Studio State Historic Site Location: 2 blocks west of SW Trafficway, off of Valentine on Belleview, in Kansas City, Jackson County. Facilities: Historic home. Activities: Guided tours, interpretive programs. Special Features: Missouri's most noted 20th-century artist, Thomas Hart Benton lived in this 2 1/2 story, late Victorian-style house from 1939 until his death in 1975, and several of his paintings and sculptures can be viewed there. Benton converted half of the carriage house into his art studio, which is where he died. The studio remains as he left it, with coffee cans full of paintbrushes, paints, and a stretched canvas waiting to be painted.
