1 City (1990 pop. 17,457), seat of Thomas co., SW Ga., near the Fla. line; inc. 1831. It is a farm trade center, with a large fresh-vegetable market. Manufactures include lumber, clothing and textiles, plastics, jet engine blades, pipe, sawmill machinery, pumps, foods and beverages, mobile homes, and furniture. The city has a mild climate and is a winter resort. More than 25,000 rose bushes line the city streets, and an annual rose festival is held there. 2 Industrial city (1990 pop. 15,915), Davidson co., central N.C., in the Piedmont; inc. 1854. It is a railroad junction in a tobacco, grain, barley, poultry, livestock, and dairying region.
