Thread, Flexible
in construction mechanics, a flexible element having a negligible bending stiffness and functioning only in tension. It is usually the design model for suspension cables, cables of suspension bridges and suspension roofs, conductors of aerial electrical transmission lines, and so on. Flexible threads are geometrically variable systems in which each kind of loading conforms to the shape of the sag in the thread. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
