(design engineering)
Most commonly, a 60° thread used on pipes and tubes, characterized by flat crests and roots and cut with ¾-inch taper per foot (about 1.9 centimeters per 30 centimeters). Also known as taper pipe thread.

Though some malleable iron applications have been converted to ductile iron, most threaded pipe fittings are specified under ANSI B1.
On top of the threaded pipe, screw on a 1" tee and a right-angle fitting turned downward.
A threaded pipe in good condition has sharply pointed threads; one corroding from inside might have dull or rounded threads, or threads partly filled in with rust.
