Neonatal thyroid stimulating hormone level and perchlorate in drinking water.
The study, by Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney and the NSW Newborn Screening Programme, measured thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) levels in two populations of neonates - 1316 born between August 1998 and April 1999, and 1457 born between March and December 2000 - and urine iodine concentrations in 84 mothers.
Thyroid Stimulating Hormone, or TSH, is the pituitary hormone that senses the serum thyroid hormone concentration and increases or decreases to control thyroid activity.
