Ticknor, William Davis, 1810–64, American publisher. John Reed and James T. Fields Annie Adams Fields, 1834–1915, a native of Boston, who also became a well-known author. Besides writing volumes of verse and biographies of Whittier (1893) and Harriet Beecher Stowe (1897), she was famous for her literary salon in Boston. ..... They published the works of many of the famous Americans of the day, including Longfellow, Lowell, and O. W. Holmes, and their offices were the meeting place of literary men. From 1854 to 1864 the firm published the Atlantic Monthly and the North American Review. Ticknor was the first American publisher to pay foreign authors for the rights to their works. Ticknor, William Davis (1810–64) publisher; born in Lebanon, N.H.
