Tikhonov, Aleksandr Ivanovich
Born Jan. 1, 1947, in the village of Uiiskoe, Cheliabinsk Oblast. Soviet athlete in the biathlon. Honored Master of Sport (1968). Military officer. Member of the CPSU since 1975. Competing in various biathlon events, Tikhonov was a champion at the Olympics in 1968, 1972, and 1976, world champion seven times between 1969 and 1973, and champion of the USSR seven times between 1969 and 1972.
