(born Feb. 20, 1893, Philadelphia, Pa., U.S.—died June 5, 1953, Hollywood, Calif.) U.S. tennis player. The dominant player of the 1920s, he won seven U.S. men's singles championships (1920–25, 1929), three Wimbledon singles championships (1920–21, 1930), and two professional titles.
