Timofeev, Nikolai Vladimirovich 

Born July 27 (Aug. 9), 1913, in the city of Mtsensk, in what is now Orel Oblast. Soviet state and party figure. Member of the CPSU since 1943.

The son of an artisan, Timofeev graduated from the Urals Forestry Institute in 1935. Between 1935 and 1941 he worked at the Maklakovo Sawmill in the positions of brigade leader, foreman, head of a shop, and technical director. During the period 1941 to 1955 he held management posts at enterprises of the Ministry of the Timber and Paper Industry in Krasnoiarsk Krai and Irkutsk Oblast.

Timofeev was deputy minister of the timber industry of the RSFSR in 1955 and 1956 and minister of the paper and wood-products industry in 1956 and 1957. He was chairman of the Kostroma council of the national economy from 1957 to 1962 and chairman of the Northwestern Council of the National Economy from 1962 to 1965. From 1965 to 1968, Timofeev served as minister of the timber, pulp and paper, and wood-products industry of the USSR. He served as minister of the timber and wood-products industry of the USSR from 1968 to 1980.

Timofeev was a member of the Central Auditing Commission of the CPSU from 1966 to 1976. A candidate member of the Central Committee of the CPSU from 1976 to 1981, he was a deputy to the seventh through tenth convocations of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR.

Timofeev has been awarded the Order of Lenin, the Order of the October Revolution, two other orders, and various medals.
