Pavlov, Timofei Pavlovich
Born June 12 (24), 1860, in St. Petersburg; died June 23, 1932, in Leningrad. Soviet dermatologist and venereologist. In 1885, Pavlov graduated from the Military Medical Academy in St. Petersburg, where he had worked under the guidance of S. P. Botkin and I. P. Pavlov. From 1898 to 1924 he was a professor of the academy’s joint department of dermatological and venereal diseases, and from 1924 to 1929 he worked at the Leningrad Institute for the Advanced Training of Physicians. Pavlov’s principal works dealt with the general pathology of syphilis, including congenital syphilis. He was one of the first to study the treatment of syphilis using arsphenamine and the X-ray therapy and physiotherapy of skin diseases. He also created a school of dermatologists and venereologists. Pavlov was chairman of the Russian Society of Syphilologists and Dermatologists (1900) and a corresponding member of the French Dermatological Society (1901).
