Tocantins River

River, east-central and northeastern Brazil. It rises in several headstreams, including the Paraná River, and flows north and west to join the Araguaia River. It again turns north and flows into the Pará River after a course of 1,677 mi (2,699 km). Frequently interrupted by rapids and waterfalls, it is mainly unnavigable.
