Toch, Ernst (1887–1964) composer; born in Vienna, Austria. He had a prominent career in Germany before fleeing the Nazis and coming to the U.S.A. in 1935. He wrote some film scores and taught privately, meanwhile composing a substantial body of music in a post-Romantic style with touches of modernism. |
