Tonirovka

in Russian, the treatment of metal sculpture with various chemicals to achieve a sharper, clearer plastic form. The word is also used to denote oxidation and patination in sculpture. In addition, tonirovka is the application of paint to cover white and other spots in restoring paintings and engravings.
