On the northwestern border of UT, west of Salt Lake City; original county. Organized as Tuilla County Jan 31, 1850 (prior to statehood); includes Shambip County, which was abolished in 1862. Spelling was changed Mar 1852. Name Origin: Possibly for Tuilla, a Goshute Indian chief, or for the bulrushes (tules) in the swamps, or for Mat Tooele, an Austrian village
