Torralba

Also found in: Wikipedia 0.02 sec.
Torralba

a hunters’ habitation site of the Lower Paleolithic in central Spain (Soria Province), 150 km northeast of Madrid. Excavations were carried out in the area from 1907 to 1911 and from 1961 to 1963. Torralba dates from the Chellean and early Acheulean periods. Findings included the bones of fossilized elephants, rhinoceroses, horses, and deer. The site has also yielded remains of campfires, stone implements (such as coups de poing, cleavers, side-scrapers, and flakes), and individual bones fashioned into stabbing weapons. Fragments of wooden spears were found as well.
