Toslink

(TOShibaLINK) An optical interface for digital audio connections that provides a data rate from 125 Mbps to 1.2 Gbps. Developed by Toshiba and part of the S/PDIF interface, Toslink sockets are widely found on CD/DVD players, TVs and other A/V equipment for the audio connection. See S/PDIF and HDMI switch.

Digital Audio Connections
The Toslink socket is commonly found next to an RCA socket for digital audio connections on A/V equipment. Both are part of the S/PDIF interface with Toslink providing the optical option for a fiber cable and RCA providing the electrical counterpart using coaxial cable. If the Toslink jack is not used, the stopper plug (object at bottom right) is inserted to block the laser beam.
