Towne, Henry Robinson (1844–1924) engineer, manufacturer; born in Philadelphia. He began his career during the Civil War, supervising the installation of ship engines and machinery. In 1868 he was a partner at the Yale Lock Manufacturing Company and became president in 1869. He held that position until 1915. He introduced modern manufacturing processes to the lock industry.
