SANTA CLARITA -- California Highway Patrol officials launched an all-out effort to crack down on drunken drivers, speeders and other traffic law violators over the July 4 holiday weekend. Besides helping law enforcement officials track stolen or abandoned vehicles, the system for automobiles also provides ownership and information about previous traffic accidents or traffic law violations. The misbegotten idea that stopping motorists somehow hurts police-community relations has hampered traffic law enforcement efforts in some locales. |
