Trani

Also found in: Wikipedia 0.01 sec.
Trani (trä`nē), town (1991 pop. 50,429), in Apulia, S Italy, on the Adriatic Sea. It is a seaport, a beach resort, and an agricultural center, famous for its wine. Trani enjoyed great prosperity at the time of the Crusades (11th–13th cent.) and again in the 15th–16th cent. Its ordinamenta maris of 1063 probably constitute the first medieval code of maritime law. Landmarks include the Romanesque Cathedral of San Nicolà Pellegrino, with fine bronze doors (1179) and a lofty campanile; a 13th-century castle; and a large public garden.
