transfer rate

Also found in: Wikipedia 0.01 sec.
transfer rate
The transmission speed of a communications or computer channel. Transfer rates are measured in bits or bytes per second. Transfer rate and "data rate" are often used synonymously; however, technically, the transfer rate is often more than the data rate, because control signals may be sent along with data, which decreases the rate of actual data being sent. See data rate.
transfer rate [′tranz·fər ‚rāt]
(computer science)
The speed at which data are moved from a direct-access device to a central processing unit.
