Objectives: To characterize cardiac sources of emboli detected by transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) in patients without recognizable cause of transient ischemic attack (TIA) and/or ischemic stroke and TIA.
The researchers looked for lucent defectsin the CT neck scans of 95 patients who, in the previous three months, had suffered a stroke or a transient ischemic attack (TIA), a temporary blockage of blood vessels that is often followed by a major stroke within days to months.
Based on market research, there is a potential for more than 250,000 annual procedures in Europe and Canada for the stroke and transient ischemic attack (TIA) indications.
