transputer(TRANSistor comPUTER) A computer that contains a CPU, memory and communications capability on a single chip. Chips are strung together in hypercube or grid-like patterns to create large parallel processing machines, used in scientific, real-time control and AI applications.

The Berlin extrusion lines use Battenfeld's Unilog TC40 transputer controls, and the display panels are mounted high enough to be read from a distance. Perihelion's operating system, Helios, has been ported to the ARM, SGS Thompson Transputer, Intel i860, Motorola 68K and Texas Instruments DSP processors. To combat these obstacles, the new NDC gauge relies on a new stabilized scanning frame and new electromagnetic sensor with an on-board transputer to correct for the dynamic distance changes. |
