Traviès de Villers, Charles Joseph (shärl zhôzĕf` trävyĕs` də vēlĕr`), 1804–59, French caricaturist and painter, b. Switzerland. He founded and was a prolific contributor to the popular journal Charivari (1831) and drew for Caricature (1838). His witty burlesques of Parisian life were very popular.
