Tritonia

a genus of plants of the family Iridaceae. The plants are perennial herbs with a corm and a fanlike cluster of hard, ensiform radical leaves. The inflorescence is a small panicle. The flowers have a brightly colored, six-parted, funnelform perianth. There are about 50 species, found in southerp Africa. The plants are used in floriculture. The best-known species is T. crocosmiiflora, an intergeneric hybrid (Crocosmia aurea × T. pottsii) often assigned to the genus Crocosmia. In regions having a mild climate the corms winter in the ground; in northern regions they are gathered for the winter. The inflorescences are suitable for cuttings.
