Bizone
the unification of the American and British occupation zones in Germany in the years 1946–48; it was created in violation of the quadripartite agreements (the USSR, the USA, Great Britain, and France) on Germany. Talks between the USA and Great Britain on the creation of the bizone began in June 1946. From that time separate bizonal administrative bodies also began to be created. The final accord was signed in New York on Dec. 2, 1946. At a separate London conference of representatives of the USA, Great Britain, and France on the German question (1948), a decision was made to annex the French occupation zone of Germany to the bizone and to form a West German state. In accordance with this decision the bodies of state power of the Federal Republic of Germany were formed in September 1949. D. ASANOV Want to thank TFD for its existence?
