Arkhipov, Trofim Arkhipovich
Born July 26 (Aug. 8), 1908, in the village of Novaia Biia, now in the Mozhga Raion, Udmurt ASSR. Soviet Udmurt writer; People’s Writer of the Udmurt ASSR (1960). Member of CPSU from 1939. Edited the magazine Molot (1956–66). Arkhipov’s main theme is the transformation of the Udmurt village. The novella By the Ludzinka River (parts 1–2, 1949–57) deals with the everyday working life of a village during the Great Patriotic War and postwar years. The novel The Beauty of Man (1963) is devoted to the builders of the Votkinsk hydroelectric plant on the Kama River. The novella You Have Started on the Road (1968–69) tells of the Civil War and the establishment of Soviet rule in an Udmurt village.
